Foster Dog Location: Hampton

Gender: Female

Age/Weight: 5 yrs/ 75 lbs.

Spayed/Neutered: Spayed

Basic Intro/Highlights: Annie is a golden mix with strong Golden Retriever traits, placed by the rescue in 2023 and now available again because her owner passed away. Although she is homeless for the 2nd time, she is a very happy girl who always has a smile on her face. She is reliably potty trained, never chews up anything, and doesn’t counter surf.

General Activity: Annie has medium activity level. She loves to play with other dogs, but only on her terms. She likes non-stuffed toys. She loves car rides, going on outings and taking walks. She is fairly good on a leash, although we are working on her reaction to other animals while she’s walking.

Interaction with dogs: She loves older dogs but does not like being jumped at by young playful dogs and will quickly express her displeasure if she’s jumped at. She has lived with beagles and golden retrievers in her previous homes. She got along well right away with our 10-year-old golden and enjoys just hanging out with him. She and our 3.5-year-old golden now play, but she was slower to warm up to him.

Interaction with Children: Unknown, although her first home said she was used to older children. I would not recommend her for a home with young children because she only plays on her terms and could get frustrated with them.

Physical Fence Required: A 4-foot fence is recommended, if she has free reign in a fence because Annie is an exceptional jumper and has a strong prey drive. I think she could be happy in a home without a fence if she gets lots of outings and walks. She loves to be outside and is happy just sitting on our patio.

How many hours are they able to be left alone: Annie has no problem being left and I totally trust her in my house alone. She would be suitable for a working family without a playful dog or small children. She is a very confident girl with no separation or anxiety issues, except when there is a storm. She does not like storms and prefers to be as close to you as possible in bad weather.

Able to climb stairs? Yes.

Health concerns: She has no health concerns. She was treated with antibiotics for Ehrlichiosis, but no further issues are expected.

What basic commands are known? Reliable or still learning? She will sit for a treat, down and stay for a short period. I continue to remind her to be gentle when taking treats. She is a fast learner and would benefit from obedience classes for leash walking and recall.

Personality and additional information: Annie is affectionate and loves to cuddle. She jumps on the couch or bed but gets down when told. When I wake up, she is usually beside me since my husband is already up. She has a very sweet disposition and will make a wonderful pet for some family, especially with a small amount of basic training.
